Chromatizing (also called chromate conversion coating) is a chemical treatment that forms a thin protective film on aluminium and its alloys. The part is immersed in a chromate solution that reacts with the surface, converting it into a corrosion-resistant layer that is bonded to the metal. The coating adds almost no thickness, so dimensions and tolerances are preserved.
