Stainless Steel Passivation

Stainless Steel Passivation

Passivation is a chemical treatment that restores and strengthens the Natural corrosion resistance of stainless steel. During fabrication, machining, and handling, free iron particles, shop dirt, and other contaminants can become embedded in the surface and cause rust spots. Passivation removes these contaminants using a controlled acid treatment (typically nitric or citric acid) and allows a uniform, chromium-rich oxide layer to re-form on the surface. At Balambiga Metal Finishers, we passivate stainless steel components to help them perform reliably in demanding environments.

KeyBenefits

Improved corrosion resistance:

Removes free iron and surface contaminants that cause rust and pitting.

Stronger passive layer:

Promotes a uniform, protective chromium oxide film.

No dimensional change:

The process does not add material or alter part size, so tight tolerances are maintained.

No change in appearance:

Parts keep their original finish and look.

Longer service life:

Reduces maintenance and the risk of contamination in sensitive applications.

Suited to complex shapes:

The solution reaches internal surfaces, threads, and crevices.
